Katy has loved unicorns since she was a young girl. They were always a huge part of her life and thoughts. Her play time, her quiet time, they were there in everything she did, and everything she had.

Her first love.

But we all grow up if we are lucky and as a grown woman Kate moved on from such things, dropped the y from her name and lost touch with the “why” she loved unicorns in the first place, forgot how to play and did busy work-type things until the middle of her story, and that’s where we are now.

She met a special man who was different. It was as if he stepped out from behind some rock and came straight to her like he knew she was there, waiting. They almost thought they already knew each for a long time, it was strange feeling. He picked her up and he lifted her up so high above him, he held her there where the sun shown and warmed her in the bright light. And she saw something from up there while feeling all that love, but this her made her sad and broke her heart and she decided she had to help. She saw a little gray pony. A silver dapple in a bad place who needed help. She said to him it would be great if I could save that one pony there, but I will need this to do that before I can and suddenly those things became done, right then. He did them and when she asked how, he said “I did that for you so you could save the pony” because I love you, but he didn’t have to say that last part because he showed her, so she knew.

They began by saving one, then two, then four, then eight, then sixteen, then twenty and then forty and more. The ponies and horses came to the farm in various states of starvation, pain, sickness, bad behavior and wellness. All got happier and the sick ones got better, but some did not and for those they emptied their wallets trying and if that didn’t work they had funerals and cried and prayed.  She brought home more and he kept building her paddocks and fences, enclosures, troughs, ran water, moved sheds, helped her feed and plan and grow the farm to help more and more ponies. He helped her keep them safe and happy. He did everything he could do because he wanted to. For her.

Along the way she notices, he is quiet and he listens. He remembers. He loves. For Christmas after the horses started coming, he made her the first ever unicorn horn to put on her special loves. It was the sweetest gift she never expected. From the heart, from true love. It made her play again, like a little girl on the floor playing  with her toys immersed in enjoying the world for all it’s magic. Unicorns were back in her world and this time, they were real.

The farm began growing, ideas were poured into cement that started the foundation of the Unicorn Farm. They wanted to keep rescuing, but knew they needed help, so they invited everyone to come and see their beautiful unicorns and experience the magic of saving a horse. And that is how it came to be. In a nutshell.

They started from scratch. They didn’t know where they were headed, they simply followed what they loved and it led the way. They continue to build this world together, using their heads, their hearts, and their hands.

They are together on this loving journey, each as important as the other, she dreams and he builds. They share. She says words and he translates. They speak the same language differently. Without each other this road would not be here and together they blaze down it, unstoppable.
